Fashions Finest Africa Conference 2018 was organized by the Fashions Finest Africa team in collaboration with Eagle 8 Consulting. The event took place at Balmoral Convention Center, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island on Friday, May 25th 2018.The fashions finest Africa 2018 conference was themed “Increasing Nigeria’s Participation In the Global Garment Industry”.
The conference kicked off at about 10:00am with the National Anthem led by the Moderator Mr Lucky Idike Jr (CEO Eagle8 Consulting). The Honorable Commissioner for Tourism, Honourable Bisi Oladundoye gave an opening speech. He spoke about the growth of the Nigerian Fashion industry and how it can become an essential part of the Nigerian Economy. The headline speaker Jennifer Sutton ( Development Director Fashion Capital/Fashion Enter UK) spoke about the British Fashion Industry and she also explained thoroughly the process of garment making . Ms Mabel Doe (Fashion Consultant/Fashion Technologist) also gave thorough and indepth insight on the garment production and the factory process.
There was also a panel session featuring Nigeria Fashion industry experts where they spoke and shared their experiences, knowledge and challenges. The session was moderated by Lucky Idike Jr (CEO Eagle8 Cosulting) and Jennifer Sutton (Development Director Fashion Capital/Fashion Enter UK). The panelists included Mabel Doe (Fashion Consultant/Fashion Technologist), Chris Oputa (CEO Studio 24), Funmi Ajila-Ladipo (FADAN President), Morin Obawaya (CEO Morin.O), Adenike Ogunlesi (Founder Ruff ‘n’ Tumble), and Ohimai Atafo (CEO Mai Atafo). There were also groundbreaking speeches by Mallam Ismaila Zakari (ICAN President), Veronica Orierie (representative of Mr Olusegun Awolowo, CEO NEPC) and Dr. Waheed A. Olagunju, ED (SME) Bank of Industry.
There over 300 guests that attended the conference. Attendants enjoyed the moments at the conference and asked the panelists questions pertaining to the growth of their personal businesses and the growth of the fashion industry in Nigeria. Interestingly, Mallam Ismaila Zakari (ICAN president) also spoke about a platform soon to be organized by ICAN to loan fashion designers the amount required to help grow their business. Mr Chris Oputa (CEO Studio 24) made the designers in attendance aware of the opportunity to showcase their clothing designs in any Studio24 branch while Mrs Funmi Ajila-Ladipo (FADAN President) also picked her interest on few designers to work with at the conference. Additionally, Mrs Adenike Ogunlesi (Founder Ruff ‘n’ Tumble) stated that Nigeria fashion industry’s focus should be on the garment technicians who makes work easier in the factory. She went further by saying that garment technicians earn more money because of the unique service they provide in the fashion industry. Finally, Mai Atafo (CEO Mai Atafo) sparked the audience interest by stating his need for a female intern, who is eager and ready to make a splash on the Nigerian fashion industry.
The event ended after a few questions from the audience with the panelists giving sufficient and accurate responses. There were also thrilling discussion between the audience and panelists. The conference ended at about 3:00 pm followed by a networking session.
