Julie can’t get enough of accessories and also loves them simple. Since she moved to Texas, she’s being addicted to Mexican food. Guilty of pushing all her neutral clothes aside when summer rolls in and wearing anything bright she can get her hands on, Julie battled skin cancer and has embraced her porcelain skin. Talk about a strong woman!

Who is Julie Calo?

A 25-year-old fashion fanatic living in Texas that loves to spend time with my pup and boyfriend, travel, try out new restaurants, shop, and spend as much quality time with friends and family as I can. I love helping people through my blog and connecting with others from all around the world through Calo’s Closet.

When did you start blogging and what are some of the factors that have helped you?

I started blogging in April of 2014. It’s crazy that it has almost been 3 years since I started this. When I started blogging I was living in Memphis, Tennessee at the time where the blogging community was not very big, so once I moved to Houston, Texas, I was surrounded by other bloggers and so many events that have really helped impact my blogging career. I would have to say, no matter where you live whether it be a small town or big city, make sure you make connections and constantly learn. There is nothing better than having a tribe to go to for advice or just for support. No one gets bloggers better than other bloggers.

How would you describe your blogging style?

I’d describe my blogging style as girl talk. I want it to feel like I am sitting on the couch with my girlfriends and we are just chatting about anything and everything from life to fashion to beauty.

What are your current obsessions?

Ruffle details, mules and slides, colorful statement earrings.

Tell us about your proudest achievements.

Moving to Houston with my boyfriend and diving into the blogging community here. I am the biggest introvert and have never lived more than 20 minutes away from my parents, so moving to Houston and STILL living here has been a huge achievement! I am so thankful and happy to have met so many amazing and talented people while living here and can’t wait for the adventures to come.

What is your favorite vacation indulgence?

I have a major sweet tooth, so anytime we go on vacation, I love to indulge in the local sweets.

Where would you like to be in blogging five years from now?

Isn’t it every bloggers dream to just be living the fabulous life of Carrie Bradshaw? In five years, I hope to be able to branch out and travel the world and make connections with people all over.

What would you say is the biggest challenge about fashion blogging?

Not comparing yourself to others. I can’t tell you how many times I have gotten sucked into spending hours just looking at other bloggers and thinking “maybe I should do this, or wear that”. It is an endless trap and you will get nowhere if you are constantly comparing yourself. I think once you can get past the comparisons, one of the best things about blogging is that you can literally be yourself and people will love you for it. Wear what you want, say what you want, there are readers out there who will have the same style or interests and those connections will be the most rewarding so just be yourself!

Lipstick or Lip gloss?

Lipstick because I feel like it gives a more natural look. My favorite one is the Melted Matte Liquefied Long Wear lipstick by Too Faced in the shade Child Star.
