The 2016 S.A Fashion Week Pop-Up was held at Brooklyn Mall, Pretoria South Africa. The essence of the pop up was to connect designers with buyers, mingle and get to know them.
Having the pop up held in a mall was a great initiative as shoppers could walk in and shop South African designers immediately. The ambience and decoration were very appealing. And the designer presentation by the beautiful models was very classy and nicely done with great music playing in the background.
I interacted with designers who were very excited about showcasing their designs and looking forward to more business opportunities.
It was a good feeling seeing African designs scaling internationally. The African print has consistently been proven versatile with international celebrities and public figures like Beyonce, Rihanna, Khloe Kardashian, Michelle Obama etc. wearing African prints and designs. It goes to show how African prints have been embraced globally.
There was also an exciting student competition form 32 participating Fashion Colleges and Universities in South Africa. The students were asked to design a high fashion dress using African prints.
